George (Startled):
Lily? Steve's Lily? Wait... I thought you passed away five years ago.
George (Whispering to self):
How the hell do I know that? Nobody told me her name...
Lily Evans (Sighs):
It's not your knowledge, George. It's Steve's. You're inside his head right now. Everything he feels, everything he remembers... it's bleeding into you.
Lily:
He thinks I'm gone because of the diagnosis. Late-stage cancer. They gave me two months, at best. I couldn't bear for him to watch me wither away, so I left. I went abroad for treatment and cut all ties. I let him believe I was dead.
George:
You just... walked away? Without a word?
Lily:
I wanted him to have a life, George. I didn't want my death to be the only thing he remembered.
Lily:
By some miracle, I made it. I came back for him, but I saw he'd started over. He had a family. I decided the kindest thing I could do was stay a ghost.
George:
I get it now. But he needs to know, Lily. He needs to know you're out there. You're the reason he has to stay.
The dream fades into nothingness. George wakes with a jolt, certain of one thing: Steve isn't just grieving a broken family; he's haunted by a lost love. Lily is the only one who can pull him back from the edge.
