George:
Steve... just think about the person who meant the most to you. The one you would've done anything for.
Steve:
I really believed she was the one constant in my life. I thought even if everything else went to hell, she'd be right there with me.
Steve:
Then I saw the messages. Everything changed. She was seeing someone else.
George stays quiet, giving him the space to get it out.
Steve:
And the guy... it wasn't some random stranger.
Steve (Trembling):
It was... the person I trusted more than anyone.
George:
Who was it?
Steve:
My own brother. I tried to lie to myself, told myself I was imagining things. But I eventually saw them together... and there was no explaining that away.
George:
And you didn't... break right then and there?
Steve:
Break? No, the real nightmare came later. When I realized the kid—my son, the boy I raised...
He shuts his eyes tight, but the tears still break through.
Steve:
He isn't mine. He's theirs.
Steve:
They stripped away everything. Every bit of pride I had left.
George:
So that's why you're up here.
Steve:
Look, nobody really wants to die. We just get to a point where we can't find a single damn reason to stay alive.
George (Softly):
I get it. I really do. But Steve... there's something you don't know. There's still a reason for you to be here.
