George:
Steve, think about your son. He's the reason you've fought this hard, isn't he?
Steve:
He was everything. I thought he was the one good thing the world finally gave me.
George:
What changed?
Steve:
I found the birth certificate. I'd never had a reason to look... I just assumed he was mine. He was my boy.
Steve:
But under "Father"... it wasn't my name on that paper.
Steve:
It was the one person I actually trusted.
George:
Steve... who was it?
Steve:
Lucus. My own brother.
Steve:
He's theirs. Everyone knew but me. I was the last one to find out my life was a lie.
George:
They lied to your face.
Steve:
It wasn't just a lie. They stole my life. They took my family and left me with nothing.
George:
But you still loved that boy, didn't you?
Steve (Weeping):
I loved him more than my own life. But now... I can't even stand to look at myself.
George:
And that's why you're here.
Steve:
It's not that I'm in a hurry to die, George. It's just that there's absolutely nothing left to live for.
George (Softly):
I hear you. But there's a piece of the story you're missing. You still have a reason to stay.
